VS Code overview
The AI Workforce One HQ extension brings your HQ teams into VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf and VSCodium. Open a team's files, join its session terminals and forward its ports, with nothing installed on the team machine.
The extension is at version 0.1.0 and is published as a pre-release on the Visual Studio Marketplace and on Open VSX. Expect changes between versions.
The extension talks only to HQ, with HQ's own permissions, and installs nothing on your team machines. Everything you see and do in VS Code is what your role on that team allows in HQ, and secrets stay masked, as in HQ.
What it does
- Sign in with HQ: Sign In. You approve this computer in HQ in your browser, the same way
as
hq login. The editor gets its own access, which you can remove at any time in HQ, under Account, Devices. - Teams: the AI Workforce One HQ sidebar lists your organizations, their teams (running, starting or off) and each team's sessions.
- Team files: Open Team Files adds a team's folder to the Explorer. Open, edit and save its files, and search them on the team machine.
- Session terminals: open any session you can see in a VS Code terminal. You type in your own sessions; other people's sessions are view only. Closing the terminal leaves the session running.
- Ports: forward a port from a team machine to
localhoston this computer and open it in your browser. Ports the machine is listening on are offered to you.
Before you start
- VS Code 1.90 or newer, or Cursor, Windsurf or VSCodium.
- An HQ account in at least one organization.
- Developer access on for your organization. An organization owner turns it on in HQ, under Settings, Security, Developer access. Until then the Teams view says "No org has developer access on yet."
- Access to the team. What you can do depends on your role on each team:
| On a team, you can... | Viewer | Editor or owner |
|---|---|---|
| Open its files | Read only | Read and save (needs an active plan) |
| Search its files | Plain text | Plain text and regular expressions |
| Open its session terminals | Watch | Watch, and type in your own sessions |
| Start a new session terminal | No | Yes (needs an active plan) |
| Forward a port | No | Yes (needs an active plan) |
| Wake its machine | Yes | Yes |
